Youth Development

We believe youth should be involved in every aspect of decision-making processes that affect their lives. Youth should be viewed as agents of change, instead of objects of programs.

We have three parts to our youth program that support youth as they work to make a positive impact in their communities:

  • The Multnomah Youth Commission (MYC), an active policy body serving the young people of our community as the official advisors to the Multnomah County Board and Portland City Council.
  • Our Bill of Rights: Children & Youth - the nation's first bill of rights written by youth, for youth and adopted by local government.
  • Youth Planner Program - Youth hired in the City of Portland Bureau of Planning, supported by a professional level adult staff. They work to get youth involved in the planning for Portland's future.
