Services: Develops and implements population-based approaches to address the key factors that contribute to chronic diseases: tobacco use, physical inactivity, and poor nutrition.
Tobacco Prevention and Education Program (TPEP): Supports tobacco-free schools, colleges, hospitals, multi-unit housing, and worksites. Facilitates community partnerships, creates tobacco-free environments, counters pro-tobacco influences, and promotes quitting among adults and youth. Responsible for enforcement of local and statewide smokefree worksite laws.
Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Program: Works to create community environments where it becomes easier to make healthy choices about what we eat and our levels of physical activity. Current initiatives include coordinating the North Portland Healthy Active Living Coalition, which is working to advance school wellness policies that make it easier for children to eat well and be physically active while at school, and transportation policies that encourage safe walking and biking to school.
Healthy Active Multnomah County Initiative: Focuses on developing a three year Community Action Plan to reduce the burden of chronic disease most closely linked to physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use.
