Welcome to the Multnomah County Auditor's Good Government Hotline
Available to the public and to Multnomah County employees
The Multnomah County Auditor, Board of County Commissioners, District Attorney, Sheriff, and County management are committed to the highest standards of ethical and legal behavior and to the stewardship of taxpayer resources.
The Auditor's Good Government Hotline was established to provide Multnomah County employees and the public at large with a method of reporting concerns about suspected fraud, abuse of position, and misuse of County resources. The Hotline is not a place to report emergencies. If you need to report an immediate threat to health or safety, please call 911. The Hotline is also typically not an appropriate venue for complaints about personnel or workplace environment issues. These should be addressed first through procedures established by county departments or through departmental or central Human Resources. A list of other reporting resources appears at the bottom of this page.
The Auditor's Good Government Hotline allows you to make confidential reports in two ways: by phone or via an online entry form. Our goal is to begin a preliminary investigation of all reports within 48 hours of receiving them. However, reports submitted to the Hotline may not receive an immediate response, particularly if they are lacking sufficient detail for an investigation.
In order for us to conduct a thorough investigation, it is most helpful for us to be able to speak or e-mail with you directly to ensure we have enough information. This can be done on an anonymous basis if you do not wish your name to be known.
The Good government Hotline airs to maintain the confidentiality of reports, including the identity of the reporter, to the extent legally possible. In order to ensure confidentiality, you MUST request that your report be help confidential before you provide details about your concerns. Please indicate at the beginning of your message report whether you would like it be kept confidential. The auditor’s Office good Government Hotline does not automatically collect identifying information from reports left by either the phone or online.
To make a report:
Phone: Please call 503-793-4723 to make your report over the phone. You will be asked to leave a detailed message including the following items:
- Name and contact information (optional)
- Identify the problem you are calling to report, with as much detail as possible
- Specifics on where and when the problem occurred, including whether this was a one time occurrence or whether you believe the problem is ongoing.
- Who you believe was responsible for the problem, including whether management is aware of it
- How you became aware of the problem
- Whether you wish to be contacted and/or remain anonymous
Online: Please follow the link to http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/324002/Multnomah-County-Good-Government-Hotline. The submission form is much like an online survey and will guide you through a number of pages with questions about the events or activities you are reporting. Please give as much detail about the allegations as possible. There will be a space for you to leave your name and/or contact information if you are comfortable doing that. Again, this is often the best way for us to gather information so that we can investigate. At this time we do not have an anonymous means for two-way communication between you and our office.
